Our Parents

We focus so much on our children, that sometimes it's easy to loose sight of the fact that our parents may require care as they age. What do you do when a parent suddenly needs help to remain independent or becomes ill enough to require long-term care? Are you prepared to provide that care, make the decisions that have to be made about care or even find the resources necessary?

Most women outlive their spouses by several years. While you may be prepared to live without your life-partner, are you prepared to do it in poverty? If your spouse is unfortunate enough to need long term care in his final months or years and you haven't made any provisions for paying the costs, that may be exactly what happens. A little time spent planning now can save you a lot of additional heartbreak later in life.
